Critical Mass Orlando is a monthly community bike ride bringing together cyclists from across the city, at its peak drawing nearly 300 riders. When the organizer set a goal to grow the event and make it more family-friendly, I was asked to develop a new visual identity that felt welcoming, memorable, and shareable.
I created a playful cat riding a bicycle; a concept inspired by our mutual love for cats but strategically aligned with the goal of making the ride feel approachable rather than niche or intimidating. What began as a visual for social media calendar promotions quickly became a recognizable mascot for the ride.
The response from the community was immediate. The design organically expanded into merchandise, including stickers requested by riders, turning a simple promotional asset into a unifying symbol for the event.
